03-162. FIRST NEWSPAPER IN CALIFORNIA - The Californian  San Francisco, CA Dec. 1, 1847- Rare as a title in it's own right,  this issue contains great Western news. P. 2 col 1: "Kit Carson...has arrived in Monterey via Santa Fe and Los Angeles."  P.2 Resolutions of the Town Council on the names and locations of new streets to be constructed: California, Montgomery, Kearney, Broadway, & Sampson Streets. Throughout issue are commentaries on the Mexican War. P.3 col. 2: "Capt. Kid'd Treasure Found ( off the coast of New Jersey).  Excellent condition but small   separation at center fold. FIRST NEWSPAPER OF NEW JERSEY -  New Jersey Gazette Trenton, NJ Sept. 29, 1779- Originally published in Burlington, NJ, the paper was removed to Trenton  on Mar. 4, 1778 due to Revolutionary War emergencies. This newspaper, the 1st printed in New Jersey, was short lived, suspending publication on July 16, 1783. Contains a front page letter continuing over  to p. 4:" A Circular Letter from the Congress of the United States of America to their Constituents." Letter signed in type by President of Congress, John Jay. Great opportunity to own very early NJ imprint. See front  of catalog for photo.   $740
